Chiropractic is a safe effective treatment for many spine and other joint-related conditions without the use of drugs or surgery.

Chiropractic is a science which concerns itself with the relationship between structure, mainly of the spine and function mostly of the nervous system. It is a system of healthcare which uses science & skill to diagnose and treat problems involving the nervous system, joints and muscles, so as to achieve the restoration and preservation of good health. Scientific research supports it as a safe and effective alternative to drugs and surgery.

The spine supports your body, protects your spinal cord and allows you to move. The spinal cord is an extension of your brain which runs through a canal in the centre of your spine. In the cord there are millions of nerves which control and coordinate the function of every cell in the organs and systems of your body. It is your body’s communication system.

The human body has a natural ability to repair itself but sometimes bones can become misaligned. Unfortunately it cannot reposition bones in all directions as it does not always have muscles pulling in the direction needed to correct the misalignment. In the spine this occurs when a bone gets stuck, this is called a fixation.

When this happens the body tries to compensate by twisting and locking-up also irritating delicate spinal nerves thus affecting our nervous system. Further injuries cause more problems by adding more twists and locking up as the body compensates. These joint dysfunctions are often associated with stiffness and pain.

Chiropractic care is focused on detecting, correcting and preventing these problems by using gentle manipulation called chiropractic adjustments; and a range of other manual treatments we are able to relieve irritation and pressure to the nervous system and so allow normal function and balance to return. Chiropractors also give advise on exercise, self help, diet and lifestyle.
